This region is a recreational paradise since it boasts a number of state parks and beaches. Camping, hiking, kayaking and whale watching are only a taste of the many adventures that are enjoyed in the area. MacKerricher State Park is an excellent destination for these recreational pursuits. The town of Fort Bragg is the regional center and is best known for the Skunk Train that takes visitors through forests of redwood trees. Visitors are also fond of exploring Mendocino’s wine country, where winery tours and tastings are offered year round. The coastal village of Mendocino is located 10 miles south of Fort Bragg and offers romantic lodging, historic buildings and upscale restaurants.
